The Issuer advises that the following replaces the Purchase of Own Securities
announcement released 21 August 2002 at 10:30 under RNS number 2268A.

To date 712,000 shares have been repurchased, and not 612,000, as previously
stated. All other details remain unchanged, and the full amended text appears
below.

                 JPMORGAN FLEMING AMERICAN INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

                 REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION


JPMorgan Fleming American Investment Trust plc announces that on Tuesday 20
August in the market it purchased for cancellation 50,000 ordinary shares at
514p per share representing a total of 0.8% of the ordinary shares in issue.

The current repurchase authority for 9,139,960 shares was approved by
shareholders on 25 April 2002.  To date 712,000 shares have been repurchased
under this authority.

The remaining shares in issue following this repurchase is 60,457,663
