Johnson Matthey Announces Retirement of Director

Johnson Matthey Plc announces that Mr George D Wells will retire as a
non-executive director of the company on 31st July 2000.   Mr Wells, who is
based in the US, joined the board in March 1998.  

Michael Miles, Chairman of Johnson Matthey said:  'George has been a valuable
member of our board since joining us, and I should personally like to thank
him for his contribution'.
