AGM statement and trading update

Malcolm Hepworth, the Chairman of John Lewis of Hungerford Plc ('the Company'), will make the following statement at its AGM to be held at 4 pm today:

I am pleased to report a continuation of the positive momentum highlighted in our final results.  Trading over the Christmas period was in-line with our expectations and our sales and forward order book now stands at £3.6 million, an increase of 15.9% over the same period last year.  This is consistent with the trend previously reported although it remains the case our relatively long sales cycle means the prevailing level of consumer confidence can impact significantly on our financial performance.  We continue to progress the managed roll out of our bedroom furniture range and have now surpassed £100,000 of sales, which are included within the sales and forward order book.
