Successful HOST Launch Open Day Held at London Stansted Airport

ITM Power (AIM: ITM), the energy storage and clean fuel company, this morning held a launch open day for investors, analysts, media and existing and potential commercial partners.  The event took place at London Stansted Airport on the occasion of the commencement of the Company's HOST (Hydrogen On Site Trials) programme with first participant, Stansted Airport.

The programme of events began with an address from ITM Power's Chairman, Prof Roger Putnam, who was followed by the keynote address from leading motor industry commentator Quentin Willson.  Further presentations were made by:

·      Neil Morgan, Head of Energy, Technology Strategy Board

·      Phil Doran, Partner & Co-Founder, Core Technology Venture Services

·      Dr Andy Jefferson, Head of Health, Safety and the Environment, London Stansted Airport

Graham Cooley, CEO of ITM Power, made the final presentation before attendees were given the first live demonstration of the Company's HFuel Refuelling system with two Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (HICE) Ford Transit vans.

A total of 300 people attended the launch with representatives from central and local government, NGOs, industry, the media and the City as well as many of ITM Power's shareholders.

Commenting for ITM Power, CEO Graham Cooley said: "Today's well-attended launch demonstrates the increased, and increasing, profile of hydrogen solutions to the key global problems of energy security and carbon reduction.  ITM Power is now positioned as an undoubted leader in the field of hydrogen power and storage.

"I would like to thank all our visitors today for their attendance and to thank the speakers for their time and enthusiasm in presenting the case for hydrogen."

Speaking at the launch Dr Andy Jefferson, Stansted Airport's Head of Health, Safety and Environment, said: "London Stansted is delighted to be working with ITM Power and launch their ground-breaking Hydrogen On Site Trial project at the airport. The primary purpose of the trial for us will be to determine the options of using this technology for our existing airside vehicle fleet."

"The airport's average air quality is well within the EU limits but we're always keen to seek and explore new opportunities that will further reduce our emissions and our carbon footprint. This project with ITM Power is just part of the on-going work to reduce the environmental impact of operations at the airport."

About HFuel

HFuel is a self-contained module suitable for refuelling hydrogen-powered road vehicles and forklift trucks.  It is well suited to small fleet applications of both fuel cell and hydrogen internal combustion engine vehicles.  HFuel is based around a standard freight container format and can be expanded after the initial installation enabling a staged roll-out of hydrogen fuel production, storage and dispensing.  HFuel generates hydrogen by electrolysis, compresses it, stores it and dispenses the gas on demand at high pressure (nominally 350 bar/35MPa).  It requires an on-site water and electricity supply but is otherwise an autonomous solution for refuelling hydrogen-powered vehicles.  Importantly, because HFuel produces the hydrogen on site, at the point of use, there is no need for fuel delivery by roadtanker.  HFuel uniquely generates a clean fuel that can be carbon free from the footprint of fuel delivery, fuel production and vehicle emissions, a triple zero fuel.

About HOST

HOST comprises the operation and refueling of two Revolve Technologies hydrogen Ford Transit vehicles, with hydrogen produced on site at the point of use, at sites operated by participating companies and in the Gateway to London development area.  The vehicles to be refuelled during the trial are modified internal combustion petrol engine Ford Transit vans, existing vehicles that are familiar, can be maintained by local garages and cost a fraction of the price of currently available fuel cell vehicles and burn a clean fuel with clean emissions.  ITM Power sees this as a pragmatic way to encourage the widespread uptake of hydrogen as a fuel to allow rapid fuel cell electric vehicle uptake, such as the Honda FCX Clarity, in the near future.
