Re Contract

ITIS Holdings PLC 09 February 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday 9th February 2004 ITIS AWARDED MAJOR CONTRACT FROM THE DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT FOR CONGESTION MONITORING DATA ITIS Holdings plc (ITIS) today announces that the Department for Transport (DfT), who maintain and improve the network of trunk roads and motorways in England, has awarded ITIS a significant 3 year contract worth £1.25 million in its first year and a further £1 million per annum thereafter. The contract which starts with immediate effect enables the DfT to licence ITIS' historic Floating Vehicle Data (FVD) to measure congestion across the road network. ITIS has developed and now operates the world's largest FVD(R) system using information gathered from tens of thousands of cars, coaches and commercial vehicles, all of which are equipped with position enabled devices. Data is gathered by ITIS in real time and stored for historic analysis. Under the terms of the agreement, the DfT will purchase historic data from ITIS for the last 3 years and will also receive regular future updates enabling statisticians to measure the ongoing impact of congestion. ITIS data will also be made available to local authorities in England to help them produce and measure the effectiveness of Local Transport Plans. It is expected that this will lead to additional revenues for ITIS from the sale of historic and also real time data for network monitoring and other purposes. Data will also be used to calibrate Journey Planning applications on the Transport Direct website. The contract has been awarded after an extensive feasibility study was carried out on behalf of the DfT by consultants Mouchel Parkman and academics from the Centre for Transport Studies at Imperial College in London. Commenting Stuart Marks, Chief Executive of ITIS said: 'The Department for Transport oversees the delivery of a reliable, safe and secure transport system and as congestion continues to effect journey times we are delighted that our FVD will play an important part in decision making at both national and local level. This contract proves without doubt the flexibility of FVD and our ability to support the commercial sector with real time information for services such as RDS TMC and the public sector in contracts such as this. ITIS data will now support the DfT, the Highways Agency and Transport for London in their decision making on congestion issues' The Department for Transport said: ' The data that the DfT is buying will give both national and local government much better information on the pattern and location of congestion on urban and inter-urban roads. By improving our shared understanding of congestion, this new data will improve our collective ability to tackle it effectively. It will provide a strong basis for planning and managing the flow of traffic on England's roads.'
