UK Automotive Manufacturer Trebles Production Area Covered by Ubisense Smart Factory System

Cambridge, UK - Ubisense Group Plc ("Ubisense" or the "Company") (LSE:UBI),  a market leader in location based smart technology, is pleased to announce that a high volume automotive manufacturer has more than trebled its deployment of the Ubisense Smart Factory System.

The UK based customer already uses the RTLS solution in production to track and control thousands of cars and DC torque tools and has now expanded the applications into the off-tracks finishing area, providing an end-to-end solution for visibility and control across the whole factory floor.

The deployment will allow the manufacturer to monitor each vehicle as it goes through the test and finishing process with the goal of eliminating particular pinch points or bottlenecks in the production process. Full integration of the solution with existing manufacturing execution software allows the customer to control the whole process in real-time, something unachievable before introduction of the system. With thousands of vehicle movements of multiple model variants each day, the Ubisense Smart Factory System will improve the process flow of the cars as they leave the production line, ensuring that vehicles needing attention are quickly identified and that test and finishing stations are automatically controlled.

Ubisense Chief Executive Officer, Richard Green, said: "This significant extension of the system is an excellent example of our strategy working well in RTLS."

"An expansion of this magnitude is testimony to the ROI our customers can benefit from by deploying our solutions," he said. "We have a strong focus on the high value automotive manufacturing market where our strategy is to gain a foothold in our customer plants, demonstrate the tangible benefits our system can deliver, before expanding the range of applications of the Smart Factory System in other areas of the factory floor."

Other global manufacturing organisations are also already realising significant benefits through the adoption of the system including deployments by groups such as BMW, Daimler and Aston Martin in their plants in Europe, Asia and North America. The system is delivering rapid ROI (often under 12 months) in indoor and outdoor manufacturing areas such as inbound logistics, material handling, tool and equipment management, assembly control, inspection and rework, yard management and process improvement.
