Purchase of own securities

The Investment Company plc announces that on 11 September 2008 it purchased 32,500 ordinary shares of 50p each at a price of 160.5p per share in the market.  These shares will not be cancelled but will be held as Treasury shares by the Company.

Following this purchase, 1,867,391 ordinary shares of 50p each remain in issue and 32,500 shares are held as Treasury shares.
