The Investment Company plc announces that on 7 September 2005 it purchased
1,240,000 Participating Preference shares of 50p each for cancellation at a
price of 102.25p (ex-dividend) per share.  Following this purchase, 4,994,805
Participating Preference shares remain in issue.
