Intertek Testing Services PLC 30 October 2002 INTERTEK TESTING SERVICES plc ('ITS') ITS SIGNS NEW STANDARDS CONTRACT WITH GOVERNMENT OF KUWAIT The Foreign Trade Standards division of ITS has signed a standards contract with the Government of Kuwait. The contract appoints ITS to test and inspect a range of imports into the country, to ensure that they comply with Kuwaiti safety and other standards. The contract has been signed with the Kuwaiti Public Authority for Industry (PAI) for a term of three years, and will start operating early 2003. The PAI is responsible for developing standards which ensure that imports entering the country are safe and reliable. The revenues for this contract depend upon the speed of implementation and enforcement of the programme. ITS will use its worldwide network of laboratories and offices to test and inspect imports into Kuwait before they are shipped. ITS will also co-ordinate a network of other accredited laboratories and offices to perform these services. The fees for the services under the contract will be paid for by the exporters. ITS was chosen to operate the contract after an international tender.
