INTERTEK TESTING SERVICES plc ('ITS')
ITS SIGNS NEW STANDARDS CONTRACT WITH GOVERNMENT OF KUWAIT
The Foreign Trade Standards division of ITS has signed a standards contract with
the Government of Kuwait. The contract appoints ITS to test and inspect a range
of imports into the country, to ensure that they comply with Kuwaiti safety and
other standards.
The contract has been signed with the Kuwaiti Public Authority for Industry
(PAI) for a term of three years, and will start operating early 2003. The PAI
is responsible for developing standards which ensure that imports entering the
country are safe and reliable. The revenues for this contract depend upon the
speed of implementation and enforcement of the programme.
ITS will use its worldwide network of laboratories and offices to test and
inspect imports into Kuwait before they are shipped. ITS will also co-ordinate
a network of other accredited laboratories and offices to perform these
services. The fees for the services under the contract will be paid for by the
exporters.
ITS was chosen to operate the contract after an international tender.
Commenting on the news, ITS Vice President and Chief Executive of the Foreign
Trade Standards division, Rob Dilworth, stated: 'We are delighted and honoured
to have been selected to perform the vital task of ensuring the safety and
compliance of imports into Kuwait. This contract builds upon our expertise in
operating similar standards programmes in the Middle East and elsewhere.'
