JANUARY 2014 - GROUP TRAFFIC AND CAPACITY STATISTICS

 

§ In January 2014, Group traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres increased by 11.1 per cent versus January 2013 (up 5.0 per cent on a pro-forma basis); Group capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres rose by 11.0 per cent (up 4.5 per cent on a pro-forma basis).

§ Group premium traffic for the month of January increased by 7.8 per cent compared to the previous year.

§ Underlying market conditions remain unchanged from those presented at Capital Markets Day and published at Quarter Three results.

STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENTS

IAG Cargo announced that it had signed a multi-year commercial agreement with Qatar Airways to purchase capacity on Qatar Airways operated air cargo freighters from May 1 2014. Qatar Airways will operate five Boeing 777F flights a week between Hong Kong and London, via Doha. This comes at the same time as IAG Cargo announced that it is ending its agreement with Global Supply Systems to lease three Boeing 747-8 freighters.

Vueling announced that it will open a new base in Palermo during the summer season. Palermo will be the third Vueling base in Italy. The city will have connections available to 32 destinations in Italy and Europe via Rome-Fiumicino.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) published its final decision on airport charges at London airports for five years from 2014. The CAA has reduced the final settlement for Heathrow charges from inflation only to inflation minus 1.5 per cent level each year.
