Change to Board of Directors

Inchcape PLC 14 July 2000 Liam Strong steps down from Inchcape Board Inchcape plc today announced that Liam Strong has decided to step down as a non-executive director of the Inchcape Board effective 14 July 2000. Mr Strong, Chief Executive of WorldCom International, joined the Inchcape Board in January 1993, and has served as a non-executive director through a period of major change for the Group. Following Inchcape's successful transformation into a focused international automotive group and with increasing commitments on his time from his directorships of various international high technology companies, Mr Strong feels it appropriate to step down from the Inchcape Board. Inchcape Chairman Sir John Egan said: 'As a non-executive director for over seven years, Liam Strong has made a significant contribution to Inchcape, providing valuable guidance and advice on the Group's strategic direction. Together with his other colleagues on the Board, he played an important role in the decision to transform Inchcape from a diversified conglomerate into the focused international automotive business we are today. We are sorry to see Liam leave the Group, but understand his reason for stepping down and wish him well for the future.' Note to editors: Inchcape is the world's largest independent automotive distribution group, operating in more than 20 international markets and representing many of the world's leading car manufacturers. The Group's activities include import and distribution; retail of new and used cars; automotive e-commerce; and financial services, including consumer and dealer finance, insurance and leasing.
