About Scotland's ePlanning initiative

Planning systems are central to the Scottish Government's ability to manage the development of its towns, cities and rural areas and in 2001, the Scottish ePlanning Group was established to coordinate the use of new technology for better planning service delivery.

In August 2006, Scotland's ePlanning Programme was formally launched to generate efficiency savings in the planning process, ensure a step change in ePlanning Service Delivery and to demonstrate the planning system's embrace of modernisation.

The partnership is being led by the Scottish Government's Planning division and includes all 32 Scottish local authorities, the two National Park authorities, Scottish Government Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals (SEDPEA) and a number of statutory consultees including Scottish Natural Heritage, Historic Scotland, Scottish Water, Transport Scotland and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
