Hunting PLC 7 January 2002 7 January 2002 HUNTING PLC Acquisition of Moose Jaw Asphalt Inc. for £14.0 million and current trading update Acquisition Hunting PLC, the international oil services company, announces the acquisition of Moose Jaw Asphalt (MJA) based in Saskatchewan, Canada for a cash consideration of £14.0 million. The net assets are estimated to be £9.3 million, giving rise to goodwill of £4.7 million. MJA began as an oil refinery in 1934 and moved into asphalt manufacturing in 1971. Today the company refines, processes and markets a variety of asphaltic paving products and specialty distillates for customers throughout Western Canada and the Midwestern United States. In the twelve months to 30th June 2001, per unaudited accounts, MJA achieved turnover of £40.2 million and an operating profit of £ 3.7 million. MJA will be integrated into Hunting's Gibson Petroleum, a major mid-stream oil and gas service company in Western Canada, and will enhance Gibson's market leading position with MJA's products and services. Current trading Hunting has been significantly strengthened by important strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of Moose Jaw Asphalt, and is well placed to take advantage of market opportunities over the medium term. The Board is confident about future prospects, however the market is unlikely to be as buoyant in the first half of 2002 as the same period in 2001 due to lower energy prices and lower activity levels in the industry.
