HSBC Holdings plc (the "Company") was notified on 28 November 2006 that Lehman
Brothers International (Europe), pursuant to s198 of the Act, had at the close
of business on 22 November 2006, an interest in 463,249,583 ordinary shares of
the Company and that this represented 4.02% of the outstanding share capital of
the Company and not 7.67% as previously disclosed to the Company on 24 November
2006 and announced by the Company on that date.

A copy of the original letter received by the Company on 24 November 2006 and
announced on that date is attached for information.
