MFI Furniture Group PLC 31 January 2001 MFI Furniture Group Plc Appointment of non-executive director MFI Furniture Group Plc announces that it has appointed Peter Wallis as a non- executive director, with effect from 30th January 2001. Peter Wallis, 53, is senior partner of SRU, which specialises in brand-related strategic consultancy and market research. Wallis founded SRU, now part of Brunswick Group, with Lord Stevenson in the early 1970s. MFI has an ongoing programme of activity focusing on customer, branding and design. As part of this programme it has appointed Conran Design Group to develop a new format for its stores, as well as driving product improvements through significant investment in new product design. Commenting on the appointment, Ian Peacock, Chairman of MFI, said: 'Peter's expertise in brands and style is in keeping with MFI's increased focus on what the customer wants, and the current revitalisation of the MFI brand. He is a member of Lord Puttnam's DfE Task Force to help recruit, re-moralise and retain teachers in primary and secondary education, as well as serving on the Britain Abroad Task Force to review the communication of the British 'brand' overseas. Wallis is also a member of the Council of the Friends of the Tate Gallery. Previously Wallis served as chairman of Hydra Associates, the media consultancy, between 1987 and 1999, and of SRU Ltd from 1985 to 2000. There are no further disclosures under listing rule 16.4.
