                         Appointment of Deputy Chairman

The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Tony De Nunzio as Deputy
Chairman with effect from 24th February 2005.

Tony, who is President and Chief Executive Officer of Asda Stores Limited has
served on the Board since September 2000 and will continue in his role as Senior
Independent and Non Executive Director. He will also continue as Chairman of the
Audit Committee.
