                  Notifiable interests in shares

The Company was notified on 8 October 2003 by Amvescap PLC that, following the 
recent conversion of unit trusts to investment companies with variable capital, 
Amvescap PLC ceased to be interested (within the meaning of s203 and 208 of the 
Companies Act 1985 (the 'Act')) in 24,842,029 ordinary shares of 5p each in the 
issued ordinary share capital of the Company and that immediately following such 
conversion, Amvescap PLC and INVESCO Perpetual UK Growth Fund no longer have 
notifiable interests in the share capital of Hiscox PLC.
