                        Holding in Company - Replacement

The following replaces the Holding in Company announcement released on 28
October 2002 at 17:21hrs under RNS: 0450D.

Hiscox plc ('Hiscox') was notified on 28 October 2002 that Lansdowne Partners
Limited Partnership now controls 10,530,000 shares in Hiscox on behalf of client
funds that it manages, representing 3.6 per cent. of the issued share capital
and not 4.34 per cent. as previously reported.

All other details remain unchanged.
