                        Listing of new Ordinary Shares                        

The board of Hiscox announces that, further to the conversion of Hiscox Loan
Stock announced on 15 November 2000, Hiscox has today made application to the
UK Listing Authority and the London Stock Exchange for 3,435,043 new Ordinary
Shares of 5p each in the Company to be admitted to the Official List and to
enter trading on the London Stock Exchange.  Dealings are expected to commence
at 8.00am on 20 December 2000.
