APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR

Helical Bar plc announces that Antony Beevor has been appointed to the Board
of Directors in a non-executive capacity with effect from 11th April, 2000.

Mr Beevor, aged 59, was until recently Managing Director of S G Hambros and is
a non-executive director of Croda International plc and a Deputy Chairman of
the Takeover Panel.

Commenting on the appointment, John Southwell, Chairman, said
'We are delighted that Antony Beevor has joined the Board bringing with him a
wealth of experience and business acumen.'
