HELICAL BAR PLC ('HELICAL BAR' OR 'THE COMPANY')

On 2 August 2000, Mr Gerald Kaye, a Director, exercised an option over 100,000
ordinary 5p shares at 273p per share and a second option over 200,000 at 252p
per share, both options were originally granted under the terms of the Executive
Share Option Scheme.  The company was advised on 2 August 2000 that on that date
Mr Gerald Kaye sold in the market 300,000 ordinary 5p shares in the Company at
667.5p per share.  Mr Gerald Kaye now holds 273,296 (0.9%)
ordinary shares of 5p each in the company.

The company was further advised on 2 August 2000 that on that date, the Helical
Bar Employees' Share Ownership Plan Trust ('ESOP') purchased 300,000 (0.1%) 
ordinary 5p shares in the company at 667.5p per share.  The Helical Bar ESOP
now holds 1,008,000 (3.4%) ordinary 5p shares in the company.
