Windfarm planning permission

UK Coal PLC 21 October 2005 21st October 2005 UK COAL PLC Planning Permission Granted to Build First Wind Farm Harworth Power, a subsidiary of UK COAL plc ('UK COAL') is pleased to announce that it has been granted permission by Darlington Borough Council to erect its first wind farm at the company's Royal Oak site in County Durham, on land that was formerly part of the UK COAL Southfield surface mine. The windfarm will consist of three turbines each of which will produce approximately 1.3 MW and represents the first step in a phased approach over the next two years to gain planning for a portfolio of approximately 40 turbines with a capacity of 80 MW. Harworth Power currently has 32MW of installed generation capacity which utilises surplus mine methane. The planning permission will add further capacity of 4MW, enough to provide electricity for around 3000 houses, producing savings of approximately 5200 tonnes of carbon each year.
