                                  BOARD CHANGE

The Board of UK COAL announces that Graham Menzies, Senior Independent Director
has informed the Company of his intention to step down from his position
effective 9th March 2006, due to pressure of other commitments. The Company has
started the process to find a replacement.

David Jones Chairman, commented, 'Graham has made a valuable contribution to the
Company's strategy and development and he leaves with our sincere thanks'
