                   HALFORDS GROUP PLC: PURCHASE OF OWN SHARES

Halfords Group PLC ('the Company') announces that on 18 September 2006 it
purchased for cancellation 100,000 of its ordinary shares at a price of 336.1p
per ordinary share.

Following the above purchase, the Company have now bought back 4,985,666 shares
for cancellation, since the 8 June when the buy back programme commenced.
