                  Change in membership of the Audit Committee


The Board of GlaxoSmithKline plc announces that Dr Lucy Shapiro has decided to
step down as a member of the Company's Audit Committee with immediate effect. Dr
Shapiro will continue to serve on the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee
and as a member of GlaxoSmithKline's Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr Shapiro was appointed a Non-executive Director of GlaxoSmithKline plc in May
2000 and had been a Non-executive Director of SmithKline Beecham plc since 1996.
