                       Chairman of the Audit Committee

The Board of GlaxoSmithKline plc announces that Dr Ronaldo Schmitz has been
appointed Chairman of the company's Audit Committee with effect from 30 April
2001. He replaces Mr Derek Bonham who, as previously announced, will retire
from the Board at the conclusion of the company's Annual General Meeting to be
held on 21 May 2001.

Dr Schmitz was appointed a Non-executive Director of GlaxoSmithKline plc in
May 2000 and had been a Non-executive Director of Glaxo Wellcome plc since
1997.
