Greggs PLC 10 January 2000 GREGGS plc TRADING UPDATE The group continued to achieve good core volume growth throughout the second half, driven primarily by the success of our takeaway food ranges under both the Greggs and Bakers Oven brands. Like for like sales grew strongly, in accordance with our plans: the overall growth rate in the second half was only slightly lower than that already reported for the first half, when group like for like sales advanced by 7.0 per cent. This was despite a significant sales shortfall in the final week of the year arising from the post-Christmas bank holidays on 27 and 28 December, and the additional Millennium bank holiday on 31 December. The resulting under-recovery of fixed costs in this week, which we forecast in the interim report, was in line with our budgets. The highlight of 2000 so far has been the opening of the Bakers Oven store at the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, where public reaction and initial trading have both been well ahead of our expectations. This presents an important opportunity to raise public awareness of the Bakers Oven brand.
