                       Statement re Press Speculation

The Board of Greencore notes the press speculation regarding a possible offer
by Greencore for Perkins Foods plc ('Perkins').  The Board confirms that
Greencore made an approach to Perkins prior to Christmas and that preliminary
discussions have now commenced which may or may not lead to an offer being
made for the whole of the issued share capital of Perkins.  A further
announcement will be made in due course.
