Transaction in own shares

Grainger plc announces that on 28 September 2007 it purchased through JP Morgan
Cazenove Limited 150,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 449.07 pence per
share. The purchased shares will all be held as treasury shares.  Following the
above purchase, Grainger plc holds 650,000 ordinary shares as treasury shares.
The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding shares held as treasury
shares) is 128,006,385.
