Gooch & Housego Plc (the 'Company') was informed today that its chairman and
chief executive, A.W. Gooch, yesterday purchased 20,000 shares of the Company
at 275p per share.  Mr Gooch's beneficial interest in the share capital of the
Company following this purchase is 1,536,008 shares, representing 8.54 per
cent of the issued share capital of the company.
