FULLER SMITH AND TURNER PLC 27 October 1999 FULLER'S INVESTS £8 MILLION TO BUILD NEW HOTEL IN BRISTOL Fuller Smith & Turner P.L.C. ('Fuller's') the London based brewers and retailers is purchasing a disused 1960's office block known as 'Brigstowe' on Welshback in Bristol city centre from Helical Bar PLC for £2.4 million. Fuller's will be investing a further £5.6 million to create an individually styled 94 bedroom hotel with a bar brasserie situated on the ground floor. The purchase completes on the 27th October 1999 and its funding will be provided from existing cash resources. Fuller's is no stranger to Bristol as the company already operates two successful outlets in the area, the popular 'Old Fish Market' in Baldwin Street, serving Fuller's famous real-ales such as 'London Pride' and the highly acclaimed 'Fine Line' bar in Whiteladies Road, Clifton, which also has a 70 seat dining area. The new hotel, which is scheduled to open in late 2000 will be the Group's seventh in total and first in the West country. Simon Emeny, retail director of Fuller's Inns comments: 'We are really delighted to acquire this freehold site in the centre of Bristol at this stunning waterside location. The new hotel will contribute to the critical mass we are looking for within our hotel division. The Bristol hotel will follow the successful integrated hotel and bar formats which is working so well in central London at our 'Mad Hatter' and 'Sanctuary House' hotels.
