                            APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR



The Board of the Company is delighted to announce the appointment of a director
to the Company with effect from 1 February 2005.


Anthony Townsend, aged 57, rejoins the Board as a non-independent, non-executive
director. Anthony is self-employed and has held an active city career since
1969, and has since 1988 specialised in investment trusts.  Anthony was Chairman
of The Association of Investment Trust Companies from 2001 to 2003.  Anthony is
Chairman of iimia Investment Trust plc and British and American Investment Trust
PLC, a Director of Brit Insurance Holdings PLC and F&C Smaller Companies PLC.
Anthony is also a Director of Finsbury Life Sciences Investment Trust PLC,
Finsbury Technology Investment Trust PLC and Finsbury Worldwide Pharmaceutical
Trust PLC, each of which are also managed by the Investment Manager to the
Company (Close Finsbury Asset Management Limited). Anthony was an executive
director of the Investment Manager from 1988 to August 1999 and a non-executive
Chairman of Reabourne Technology Investment Management Limited, a subsidiary of
Close Brothers Group, until November 2004.  Anthony continues to act as a
consultant to Close Asset Management Holdings Limited.  With the exception of
the foregoing, Anthony does not have any other connections with the Investment
Manager or Investment Adviser (Lindsell Train Limited) and is not employed by
any of the companies in which the Company holds an investment.


There are no matters to be disclosed under chapters 6F 2(b) to (g) inclusive of
the Listing Rules in respect to the appointee.
