NOTIFICATION OF MAJOR INTERESTS IN SHARES

The Company received notification on 22 December 2006, that as at 19 December
2006, the notifiable shareholding of Barclays PLC is now 2,599,338 shares of 40p
each, representing 4.75 per cent of the Company's total current issued share
capital.

Of the material interest disclosed above, 1,878,825 ordinary shares representing
