NOTIFICATION OF DIRECTORS' SHARE TRANSACTIONS


The company received notification yesterday of the following transactions in the
company's ordinary shares of 40p by directors:

•  On 16 October 2003, Richard Palmer purchased 8,000 shares at a price of
   193.9p each and a further 4,000 shares at a price of 194.5p each

•  Also on 16 October 2003, Ann Wilson purchased 6,150 shares at a price
   of 193.9p each and a further 2,600 shares at a price of 194.5p each.

As a result of the above transactions, those directors' shareholdings are now:

•  Richard Palmer 522,000 shares (0.98% of the total issued share capital)

•  Ann Wilson 385,356 shares (0.72% of the total issued share capital).
