APPOINTMENT OF GROUP OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Filtrona plc ("Filtrona" or "the Company") today announces the appointment of Alan Richards as Group Operations Director, with effect from 1^st October 2012.  Alan joins Filtrona from the Gums & Sugars Division of the Mars Group, where he has held the positions of Senior Director - Manufacturing Excellence and Senior Director - Global Manufacturing since 2007, having initially joined the Wrigley Company (subsequently part of the Mars Group) in 2002.  Prior to this, Alan held a variety of operational roles in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries in the UK and in the mining industry in South Africa.

In his role as Group Operations Director, Alan will be responsible for overseeing Filtrona's international manufacturing and distribution footprint, to ensure effective use of resources and the achievement of scale benefits.  This will include Company-wide procurement, capital expenditure, operating systems, lean manufacturing and post-acquisition integration, among other areas.

Alan will report to Colin Day, Chief Executive of Filtrona, and will join the Company's Group Management Committee.
