Appointment of Clare Spottiswoode as a Non-Executive Director
of EnQuest PLC

 

14 June 2011.  EnQuest PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Clare Spottiswoode CBE as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 July 2011. 

 

Clare has held a number of senior positions in the energy sector including most recently serving as a non-executive director of Tullow Oil PLC in addition to previous roles as Deputy Chairman of British Energy PLC and Director General of Ofgas.  She is currently Chairman of Gas Strategies Consulting Ltd and EnergySolutions Inc and serves as a non-executive director at G4S plc and Ilika PLC.  Clare is also a member of the Independent Commission on Banking for the UK Treasury.

Biographical Information: Ms. Spottiswoode has significant management and board level experience spanning a number of industries including energy, technology and financial services.  She served as a non-executive director of Tullow Oil PLC from 2002-2011 and is Chairman of EnergySolutions EU Limited and Gas Strategies Consulting. Ms. Spottiswoode is also a member of the Independent Commission on Banking for the UK Treasury.

 

From November 2006 to December 2009, she served as the first policyholder advocate representing the interests of with-profits policyholders in Norwich Union's (a subsidiary of Aviva PLC) proposed reattribution of inherited estates. From 2000 through 2009 she held a number of non-executive directorships including Deputy Chair of Bergesen Worldwide Gas, a gas and shipping company, Deputy Chair of British Energy (a subsidiary of Électricité de France ("EDF"), a company that owns nuclear power stations and provides businesses with electricity, director of GEM BioFuels, a green energy company that converts bio fuels into diesel and director of Advanced Technology (UK) PLC., a communications software provider. Ms. Spottiswoode served as Director General of Ofgas, the regulator of the gas industry in the United Kingdom from 1993 to 1998. During her career she has also acted as an economist at HM Treasury, the United Kingdom's economic and finance ministry responsible for formulating and implementing the Government's financial and economic policy, lectured at London Business School, and set up and managed private business interests.
