Ian Craig Joins Board as Executive Director

                ENTERPRISE OIL BOARD APPOINTMENT

Enterprise Oil today announced that, with effect from 1 January 2000, Ian
Craig will be joining the board as an Executive Director.  Mr Craig, aged 47,
is currently General Manager of Enterprise Oil's operations in the UK and
Ireland.  He will become responsible for the group's production and
development operations worldwide and will retain responsibility for the
group's operations in Ireland.

Mr Craig is the Chairman of BRINDEX and a member of the Council of UKOOA.  He
has not held any other directorships of publicly quoted companies and there
are no matters which would require disclosure under paragraphs 6.F.2(b) to (g)
of the Listing Rules.

Andrew Armour, Enterprise Oil's Exploration and Production Director will
continue as Exploration Director, responsible for the group's exploration and
appraisal programme as well as for IT and Knowledge Management.

With effect from 1 January 2000 Peter Kallos (currently General Manager Italy)
will become General Manager for the UK and Mike Whyatt (presently Exploration
Manager UK) will become General Manager Italy.
