Enterprise Oil announces project sanction Brazilian fields
Enterprise Oil today announced that its operated Bijupira and Salema project
in Brazil has received approval from the Brazilian licensing authority, the
ANP.
The project is now sanctioned and is progressing on schedule, with drilling
operations planned to start in the next few weeks. First production is
expected in the third quarter of 2003.
Enterprise assumed operatorship of the Bijupira and Salema project following a
farm-in to the fields completed in May 2000, and has established itself as a
key player in Brazil's newly opened oil and gas industry over the last
eighteen months.
Pierre Jungels, Chief Executive, commented: 'Final sanction of Bijupira and
Salema is a milestone for this project, one of the first to be operated in the
Campos Basin by an international company. We look forward to continuing to
work with the Brazilian authorities, local contractors and our partners to
make Bijupira and Salema a success. We are committed to realising the
project's full potential and capitalising on opportunities to grow our
business in Brazil.'
Co-venturers in the development are:
Enterprise Oil (operator) 55 per cent
Odebrecht 25 per cent
Petrobras 20 per cent
Ends.

Notes to Editors
The Bijupira and Salema fields were discovered by Petrobras in 1990 and have
recoverable reserves of approximately 170 million barrels of oil. The fields
will be developed through a floating production system (FPSO) with a
production capacity of 70,000 barrels of oil per day and a storage capacity of
one million barrels of oil.
Enterprise continues to strengthen its presence in Brazil. Last week the
company was awarded four new licences in the ANP's 3rd Licensing Round,
including one as operator, providing the group with long term exploration
exposure in the Espirito Santo and Santos Basins.
