ELEMENTIS TERMINATES DISCUSSIONS WITH POTENTIAL PURCHASERS

The Board of Elementis announces that, following further discussions with
potential purchasers and certain major shareholders, it has concluded that
it is not possible at the present time to obtain an acceptable offer for
Elementis.  Accordingly, it has terminated all discussions with potential
purchasers.

Commenting on today's announcement, Jonathan Fry, Chairman, said:

'We are naturally disappointed that, following the speculative approach from
a financial buyer and the subsequent in-depth marketing exercise, an
acceptable offer for the Company has not been forthcoming.  However,
Elementis has substantially refocused its operations over the last few years
into an international specialty chemicals group and has a strong portfolio
of businesses with market leading positions in a number of sectors.  Current
market conditions notwithstanding, we believe that our businesses remain
well placed for the future.  In the meantime, the Board will continue to
explore options to maximise shareholder value.'
