Purchase of Own Securities

EDINBURGH INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

On 30 July 1999, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
125,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 481p. Following the buy
back, there are 287,983,471 ordinary shares in issue.  The share buy-back will
be financed out of the capital reserve.
