Purchase of Own Securities

EDINBURGH INVESTMENT TRUST PLC
7 September 1999


On 7 September 1999, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
400,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 496p per share.
Following the buy back, there are 284,913,471 ordinary shares in issue.  The
share buy-back will be financed out of the capital reserve.
