Buy-back of Ordinary Shares

On 19 May 2000, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
4,356,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 495p per share.
Following the buy back, there are 259,054,644 ordinary shares in issue. The
share buy-back will be financed out of the capital reserve.
