Buy-back of Ordinary Shares

On 23 June 2000, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
150,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 526p per share and also
bought back a further 100,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of
525p per share. Following the buy back, there are 257,309,644 ordinary shares
in issue. The share buy-back will be financed out of the capital reserve.
