DCC plc Board Changes

Three New Directors

DCC plc, the business support services group, announces three new appointments to the Board of Directors of DCC.

Mr. David Byrne will join the Board as Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Director. Mr. Kevin Melia will join the Board as a non-executive Director and Mr. Donal Murphy will join the Board as an executive Director.

Mr. Melia's and Mr. Murphy's appointments will take effect from 1 December 2008 and Mr Byrne's appointment will take effect from 1 January 2009.

David Byrne

David Byrne, age 61, became a senior counsel in 1985 and practised in both the Irish courts and the European Court of Justice and also served as a member of the International Court of Commercial Arbitration from 1990 to 1997. He was the Irish Attorney General from 1997 to 1999 and he served as EU Commissioner with responsibilities for Health and Consumer Protection from 1999 to 2004. Currently he is a non-executive director of Kingspan plc, chairman of the Advisory Committee to the National Treasury Management Agency and of the board of the National Concert Hall, Chancellor of Dublin City University and a member of a number of advisory boards in the food and biotech industries.   

Kevin Melia

Kevin Melia, age 61, was until recently the non-executive chairman of Iona Technologies plc, a leading middleware software company. From 2003 until November 2007, he was the non-executive chairman of A. Net, an e-payment company.  He was also chairman and chief executive officer of Manufacturers' Services Limited ('MSL'), a leading company in the electronics manufacturing services industry. Prior to establishing MSL, Mr Melia held a number of senior executive positions over a five year period at Sun Microsystems and a number of senior executive positions in operations and finance over a sixteen year career at Digital Equipment Corporation. He is a joint managing director of Boulder Brook Partners LLC and a non-executive director of RadiSys Corporation, of C&S Wholesale Grocers and of Greatbatch Corp.

Donal Murphy

Donal Murphy, age 43, joined DCC in 1998 as Head of Group IT. Between July 2004 and July 2006, he was Managing Director of DCC SerCom. Since July 2006, he has been Managing Director of DCC Energy, which in the year to 31 March 2008 contributed approximately 45% of DCC's operating profits. Prior to joining DCC, Mr Murphy held various senior roles in AIB Bank. He graduated with a B.Comm from University College Dublin in 1985 and has also completed a BFS degree and an MBA. 

Retirement of Directors

The Board of DCC has been informed by Mr. Paddy Gallagher and Mr. Tony Barry, non-executive Directors, of their intention to retire from the Board with effect from 1 December 2008 and 28 February 2009 respectively, after long and very distinguished service.

Following these appointments and retirements, the Board of DCC will comprise nine Directors, six non-executive and three executive.
