Caterpillar Inc. today declared a cash dividend of thirty-four cents ($.34) per
share on its common stock, payable November 20, 2000, to stockholders of record
at the close of business October 20, 2000.

This maintains the dividend rate declared for the previous quarter.

Ex-dividend date is Wednesday, October 18, 2000.
