Caterpillar Inc. today declared a cash dividend of thirty-two and one-half cents
($.325) per share on its common stock, payable February 19, 2000, to
stockholders of record at the close of business January 20, 2000.

This maintains the dividend rate declared for the previous quarter.

Ex-dividend date is Tuesday, January 18, 2000.
