Appointment of Managing Director

The Directors of A. Cohen & Co plc (the 'Company') announce the appointment of
Jim Ferguson, currently a non-executive director of the Company, as Managing
Director. The appointment will be effective by 1 June 2002 when Jim will take
control of the management of the Group operations at Woolwich.

Jim will be focussing on improving returns from existing activities. This will
enable the board as a whole to focus on the development and/or acquisition of
additional compatible activities and businesses in the UK and other locations.
