Chairman Designate and Board Appointments

CRH ANNOUNCES CHAIRMAN DESIGNATE AND BOARD APPOINTMENTS

The Board of CRH plc today appointed Mr. Pat Molloy as Chairman Designate to
succeed the present Chairman, Mr. Tony Barry.  Mr. Barry, having served two
three-year terms in that role, will retire after the next Annual General 
Meeting scheduled for 3rd May 2000. Mr. Molloy's term of office will be for a
period of three years. Mr. Molloy joined the Board of CRH in 1997, shortly
before his retirement as Chief Executive of the Bank of Ireland.  He is
Chairman of Enterprise Ireland, and a member of the Boards of Bank of Ireland
and Eircom.

As already announced, Mr. Liam O'Mahony takes over from Mr. Don Godson as
Group Chief Executive on 1st January 2000.  Mr. Godson has accepted an
invitation to continue as a member of the Board of CRH plc.

The Board also co-opted Ms. Barbara Alexander, a citizen of the United States,
who recently retired as a Managing Director of Warburg Dillon Read, New York.
Ms. Alexander has had a prestigious career as a leading building sector 
analyst and investment banker.  She is a director of Centex Corporation and
serves on its Audit Committee.  She is past Chairman of the Board of the Joint
Centre for Housing Studies at Harvard University and a member of the Board's 
Executive Committee.
