Colefax Group plc (the 'Company')



                           Purchase of Own Securities


On 21 January 2003 Colefax Group plc bought for cancellation a total of 700,000
ordinary shares of 10 pence each (representing 3.37 per cent. of the issued
ordinary share capital of the Company) at a price of 70 pence per share.


Following the cancellation of these shares there will be 20,060,100 shares in
issue.
