                   CHANGE OF CLASSIFICATION
                               

CML  Microsystems Plc ('the Company' or 'the Group') is pleased
to  announce  that  the  FTSE  Global  Classification  Committee
('FTSE'), which administers the industry classifications of all
companies  traded on the London Stock Exchange, has  agreed  to
reclassify  the Company into sector 93 'Information  Technology
Hardware' and subsector 936 'Semiconductors'.

The  reclassification from Sector 25 'Electronic  &  Electrical
Equipment' and Subsector 253 'Electronic Equipment' takes  into
account  the  Group's current activities and will be  effective
after the close of business on Friday 21 July 2000.
